Here's what my testing workflow looked like: (And I opted not to test any brand new apps that are still in beta, since there are so many established options out there.) (Of course, if you opt for one of those, you can still easily get AI-generated images from a separate tool and copy them into your presentation app of choice.)īeyond that, I also looked for presentation apps that brought something unique to the table-features above and beyond what you can get for free from a legacy solution like PowerPoint or Google Slides. For that reason, I opted not to make AI features a strict requirement (for now!), and I've still included apps that don't offer AI. While many apps now offer AI features in one way or another, I found many of these features to be lacking still-they're often slow, struggle to pull in relevant imagery, and yield wildly inconsistent designs. For our purposes here, I only tested software that uses slides, with the familiar deck-based editor you expect from a "presentation" tool (versus, for example, a video creation app). Ultimately, the shoe is just not for me given the other options currently available on the market and my specific training needs. The Wave Rider is Mizuno's best-selling neutral daily trainer, so despite my personal opinions, there is a large group of runners who obviously love the Wave Rider and swear by its performance. Despite a few small objections, our testers found the Mizuno Wave Rider to be an excellent choice for anyone looking for a reliable daily trainer with a premium upper and a cushioned, springy ride. However, the premium feeling upper is adaptive enough to accommodate a wide variety of foot shapes. The fit of this version of the Wave Rider is a bit narrower than previous models. While it's higher than what our testers usually run in, they found that the steep offset didn't negatively affect their runs. How Do I Get Rid of Flies in My House in Winter? These eggs hatch into larvae, commonly known as maggots, which will feed voraciously on whatever organic matter available until they pupate into full adult flies. Over the course of several days, they can lay up to 500 eggs in 75-150 egg batches using the stored sperm. Once they mate, female flies store the collected sperm and shift their priorities to egg production. This may have occurred in a garbage bin, cupboard, basement or other quiet area where eggs and larvae had sufficient food and were left undisturbed. Most likely you had a large group of larvae pupate into adults. Why do I have flies in the house all of a sudden? No, but they can enter a state of diapause or slowed development when temperatures drop. These small worms or maggots burrow beneath the earth or in manure piles where they can remain until temperatures thaw. The secret to the specie’s survival lies in the larvae. If they can’t find a warm home or building to stay in, most adult flies will die in the winter. Once they’re gone, you can seal their entry points like mentioned above. During the spring, cluster flies will vacate your home so they can enjoy the outdoor heat. If the flies in your home this winter aren’t too annoying or disruptive, you can just leave them alone. This is a great way of preventing cluster flies. Seal gaps and cracks around doors and windows.Apply a safe and approved indoor pesticide - best done by a professional.Use flypaper - remove often to prevent disease transmission. So, what can you do about cluster flies in the winter? You have a couple options, including: How to Get Rid of Cluster Flies in Winter ![]() This means you can’t seal any cracks or crevices in walls because you might trap them inside where they’ll die and attract even more obnoxious pests. They’re especially sneaky because they love laying eggs in walls. The moment the temperature rises again, flies can wake up and begin hunting and spreading.Ĭluster Flies: Why Are There So Many Flies in My House in Winter?Ĭluster flies are the most likely fly species to give you a hard time this winter. Unlike true hibernation, diapause can be short-term. This semi-dormant state allows these flies to preserve heat and energy when the climate isn’t ideal. Cluster flies are particularly common in winter because of their ability to quickly reproduce indoors, creating “clusters” of problem pests.Ĭluster flies and several other species can enter diapause during the winter. The egg-laying females die naturally after birth, but the eggs go on to hatch during the winter. This can be inside homes, tucked into garages and basements, or anywhere they consider reasonably safe. Adults lay their eggs in safe and warm areas. House flies and cluster flies hatch during the winter. Keeping a clean kitchen, covering trash and removing waste frequently will help to minimize your risk.Ģ. Because of this, it isn’t rare to have a fruit fly problem in winter. They feed off the organic material they’ve buried themselves in to survive until spring. They preserve heat by staying as covered and contained as possible. Phorid flies, blow flies, and fruit flies in the winter get cozy in the nearest trash pile. Why Do I Have Flies in My House in the Winter Here’s what you should know about eliminating winter flies: Whether you have cluster flies overwintering in your walls or fruit flies buzzing around your food, you’re probably ready to be rid of your fly infestation for good. You may be wondering, where do flies go in the winter? And, where do flies lay eggs? Unfortunately, flies can best survive the winter by setting up shop in your home. There are several species of flies that can survive as the temps drop, including cluster flies and house flies.īoth cluster and house flies lay eggs in out-of-the-way areas so they can hatch during the winter months. ![]() However, a fly infestation during cold weather isn’t as uncommon as you may think. This is the method I generally use to back up my iPhone photos and edit them on my Mac, but this only works with an active and fast internet connection - and when you aren’t on a tight timeline. I really like how iCloud Photos works and syncs between all my devices. Update: if you’re curious about this for yourself, check out this resource provided by Apple to clarify how eSIM works for travelers. I did go through a couple guides on how to set this up as I’d really like to get it to work (and I’d be thrilled to toss my bird’s nest of SIM cards), but will need more time to get it sorted out. I keep these SIM cards in my daily bag (see image above), and for areas I’m frequently traveling I can just swap the SIM card upon landing and be ready to go.Īpple recommends using eSIM to get your line ahead of time, so I tried to sign up for a line in East Africa (we plan to be there quite a bit next summer), but haven’t yet been able to figure out how. My wife and I usually land for a project, get money changed, and pick up a local SIM card so it’s easy and cheap to communicate with people in-country. I’m a bit concerned about the practicality of an eSIM-only approach for travelers with US iPhones who frequently visit the developing world. It’ll be ready for them to use whether they’ve planned for it or not. Keep in mind, the Garmin has its advantages with super long battery life and an extremely durable build made to withstand the rigors of multi-day expeditions, so I think it’s worth keeping around.īut probably the most exciting aspect of satellite connectivity being built into iPhone 14 Pro is that loved ones like my wife, Esther, will have it with them all the time. Now, with the release of Emergency SOS via satellite on iPhone 14 Pro, I don’t plan to carry the inReach nearly as often, and I’ll pause the subscription to save the monthly fee, with the added benefit of weight savings in my pack. So I’ll default to 12MP ProRAW and think of 48MP ProRAW as a bit of a “boost mode” - activating it in specific scenarios, such as capturing a beautiful landscape (like the sunny mountain landscape above) with the intent to print. I like the idea of higher resolution, but in reality I don’t need it in most daily shooting scenarios. In most cases, 12 megapixels is more than enough. ![]() It’s not crazy slow, but it’s slower than I’m used to, and I feel like I miss shots in the moments between frames when the iPhone is processing the larger 48MP files.Īvailable storage options (both in the iPhone and iCloud) have not expanded despite the file sizes being so much bigger, and I don’t want to run out of space.īattery life seems to get zapped more quickly when shooting all day at 48MP. Here are a few reasons why:ġ2 megapixels is still where the camera really shines - it’s lightning fast, it’s the same resolution across all lenses, and it’s fantastic in low light.Ĭapturing in 48 megapixels is a bit slow. But after just a few days using it, I’m pretty sure I’ll generally leave my settings set to 12MP ProRAW and only push up to 48MP when I really need it. When I first started shooting with iPhone 14 Pro, I was thinking about it as my new 48 megapixel camera, assuming I would just always be shooting 48MP ProRAW. Your eye knows right where to land comfortably because there’s nothing to pull it away. ![]() The image feels simple, clean, and focused with no distractions in the frame. ![]() Whether by just a few pixels or cropping out most of the frame, I use cropping as a tool to balance/direct the viewers eye to where I want it and to cut out the fluff. All that said, I was excited to see this massive jump in megapixels in the iPhone 14 Pro as it will open doors to capture more detail, crop in on images, and also open up new possibilities for larger format prints at higher DPIs. I’ve long been happy with the 12MP files coming out of my iPhone, and I know higher resolution sensors often have their trade-offs. When I learned about the increase in resolution of the iPhone 14 Pro sensor, I was cautiously excited. The iPhone 14 Pro introduces a massive resolution jump to 48MP, quadrupling the iPhone 13 Pro’s sensor. The iPhone camera has touted a 12 megapixel camera for seven years, and the last time it saw an upgrade the jump was from 8MP to 12MP on the iPhone 6s. |
